Blossoming out of ashes

In “River of Secrets,” the protagonist, Farah, brings attention to the struggles Syrians faced in a decade-long conflict that devastated their lives. Born out of wedlock, abandoned, and orphaned, Farah was taken in by a kind-hearted family but later grew up feeling lost due to her unknown lineage. She never attended school and became aware of her social standing only when she experienced humiliation and degradation in various circumstances.
