Our Story

The silkworm doesn’t wonder
who will wear its silk.
All it strives for is to pierce its cocoon
and set out for freedom.

Nasr Warour

An old dream of an artist, who had long assisted his father in publishing his works and negotiating with publishers, lay dormant for years. That dream finally found its moment when he and his wife, Sheri Smith, relocated from Dubai to the United States in 2021. With this fresh start, the once-dormant dream was awakened.

Nasr’s father, a dedicated tailor and prolific writer, began his journey as an author at the young age of fifteen. While working in a tailor shop, he crafted stories and poems alongside his trade after leaving his family home in a small village at just fourteen years old to live independently in a big city.

The name KHAYAT, meaning “tailor” in Arabic, pays homage to Hsain Warour’s dual identity as both a master craftsman and an inspiring author. Establishing KHAYAT was not only a way to honor this cherished figure but also a tribute to every hardworking individual who overcomes obstacles to preserve their gifts and passion for literature.

We, Sheri and Nasr, are deeply grateful for the support we have received along the way from individuals, corporations, and government institutions alike.
